Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced a new slate of park and facility improvements planned for 2026, as the City of Yonkers continues to invest in playground upgrades, park renovations and community spaces across multiple neighborhoods.
“Parks and public spaces play a major role in daily life for families, seniors and residents across the City,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “These projects will improve safety, accessibility and overall quality at parks and facilities that serve thousands of people every year.”
Yonkers Parks, Recreation & Conservation Commissioner Steve Sansone said, “In recent years, the City has completed renovations at dozens of parks and playgrounds, and that progress will continue in 2026. Some of these locations have not seen major improvements in decades, and these projects will bring long-needed upgrades to neighborhoods across the City.”
The following projects represent work that will be underway during 2026. Some projects are expected to be completed within the year, while others will continue into future phases.
Projects currently under design include:
· Lennon Park playground
· Pelton Park playground
· Trenchard Street Park playground
· Grant Park playground
· Georgia Avenue Park
· Andrus Park restrooms
· Yonkers Animal Shelter cat colony and building exterior
Projects currently under construction include:
· Trevor Park Dog Park
· North Yonkers Community Center
The City is also advancing plans to fully renovate the Nepperhan Community Center, at no cost to taxpayers, through a partnership with developer Azorim as part of broader efforts to modernize community facilities and expand access to programs and services for residents.
