Maria Regina HS Easter Egg Hunt Helps Support Brother of Student in His Fight Against Cancer

Seniors in the Maria Regina High School Foróige Society recently imparted a special meaning to the traditional Easter Egg Hunt. They used the festive occasion, symbolizing new life and spring, to help support Anthony Gray, the brother of Brianna Gray (Class of ’27) of Yonkers in his fight against Leukemia.

The event also served as the seniors’ service project, a requirement for Module 3 of the Foróige Leadership for Life Program. The initiative began during their junior year as part of Module 1 and was further developed at the program’s leadership conference in Ireland where they completed Module 2.

Assistant Principal and Foróige Society moderator Katie Murray said: “To say that I’m proud would be an understatement. These girls approached the project with so much heart. They’ve taken what they’ve learned over the past two years and turned it into

something that not only brings the community together, but also supports a family during a difficult time.”

More than 80 participants of all ages not only enjoyed looking for Easter eggs on the campus of the renowned all-girls Catholic high school, but also took part in fun crafts, met the Easter Bunny, all while contributing to a great cause. All proceeds totaling $500 will be donated to Anthony, a senior at Stepinac High School.

Principal Maria Carozza-McCaffrey (Class of ’99) said: “It is so fitting that the Foróige Society took the initiative to host this unique Easter Egg Hunt, adding: “Foróige is a leading Irish national youth organization that empowers young people to become compassionate leaders, which is also an integral part of Maria Regina’s mission. We extend a huge thank you to everyone who showed their support and made the day so meaningful especially for Brianna, her brother and family.”
