White Plains Hospital announced it has earned its second consecutive Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), recognizing the Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED), and specifically its ED nurses, for exceptional performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.
The Lantern Award is one of emergency nursing’s highest honors. Recipients are selected through a rigorous application process evaluating patient outcomes, nursing excellence, innovation and organizational commitment to quality and staff well-being.
White Plains Hospital is one of just seven hospitals in New York State and 126 worldwide selected to receive the three-year designation this year.
“This recognition from the Emergency Nurses Association is a testament to the extraordinary skill, compassion and commitment of our ED nurses, as well as the collaborative culture we have built alongside our physicians and the entire emergency services team,” said Kerri Elsabrout, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer at White Plains Hospital. “Receiving this award on the heels of our fourth Magnet® designation is affirmation of the quality of our Nursing team and their commitment to deliver the highest quality care and experience to every patient who comes through our doors.”
White Plains Hospital’s Emergency Department cares for nearly 90,000 patients each year—following a 52% increase in patient visits over the past decade—making it the busiest Emergency Department in Westchester County and the 71st busiest in the country.

The Lantern Award comes as White Plains Hospital continues to invest in the future of healthcare for the communities it serves. As part of the Hospital’s Campus Transformation Project, the Emergency Department will nearly double in size when the expansion opens in 2028, ensuring patients have access to exceptional emergency care close to home for years to come.
The Lantern Award is the latest in a series of honors recognizing White Plains Hospital’s commitment to exceptional patient care, nursing excellence and quality. In addition to earning its fourth consecutive Magnet® designation and fifth consecutive 5-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Hospital was recently named to Forbes Top Hospitals by State 2026 and Money’s list of America’s Best Hospitals for Geriatric Care, earned the inaugural ANCC Well-Being Excellence™ Credential, and received Newsweek’s highest five-ribbon designation for America’s Best Maternity Hospitals.
