Thousands of Native Plant Seeds To Be Given Away at Seed Event

All are welcome to the free Native Plant Seed Event at the Bedford Hills Community House on Sunday, October 26 when visitors can choose from more than 100 plant species, including beginner-friendly options. Gardening professionals will be on hand with plant information and planting guidelines.

Planting native seeds is an easy, cost-effective way to support biodiversity and enhance gardens. Native plants are essential for sustaining bees, birds, and butterflies—whose populations are in alarming decline—and they also bring natural beauty to our landscapes.

The seeds can be directly sown into gardens through the fall and winter, or planted in containers: visitors will be able to create a winter-sowing container to take home. Guests are encouraged to bring clear clamshell containers, used for winter sowing.

Contributions of native plant seeds are welcome. They should be cleaned and clearly labeled.

The event is hosted by the Town of Bedford, Healthy Yards, Wild Ones Lower Hudson Valley and runs 10 am – noon on Sunday, October 26 at the Community House, 74 Main Street, Bedford Hills.
