Five Rye High School students have been selected to participate in this year’s Westchester Area All-State ensembles, earning recognition for their musical achievements.
Seniors Philip Karajannis, Thomas Chen and Cole Pagen and juniors Dario Abbate and Diego Huyhua will perform alongside other accomplished student musicians from across Westchester County.
Karajannis and Abbate, both violinists, and Chen, a cellist, were selected for the string orchestra, while Huyhua, a violist, was selected for the symphony orchestra. Pagen, a tuba player, was selected for the concert band.
Karajannis, Chen, Abbate and Huyhua are students of music teacher Lizbeth Burrow, while Pagen is a student of music teacher Anthony Abate.
The students will prepare for the performances through two Wednesday evening rehearsals leading up to the Westchester Area All-State concerts on Oct. 24 at New Rochelle High School. The orchestra concert will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., followed by the band concert from 4 to 5 p.m.
The experience gives Rye’s student musicians an opportunity to strengthen their skills, collaborate with talented peers from across the region and contribute to a shared performance.
The Rye City School District congratulates Karajannis, Chen, Pagen, Abbate and Huyhua on this achievement and wishes them well as they prepare for their upcoming performances.
