Milton School Students Give Back During Service Week

Milton School students participated in a variety of activities during Service Week, learning firsthand about the importance of giving back and making a positive impact in their community. Throughout the week, the students collected food to benefit Meals on Mainstreet, created adopt-a-dog signs for a local shelter, assembled toiletry kits for a local soup kitchen and hygiene kits for children, and decorated onesies and bibs for babies in need.

“These experiences reinforce the values of teamwork, empathy, communication and problem-solving while helping students practice the social-emotional skills that are part of their everyday learning,” parent Elizabeth Patterson said.

The initiative was designed to help students understand that they are valuable members of a larger community and that, regardless of their age, they can make a positive impact. They also learned that serving their community not only makes a difference in someone else’s day, but it builds a sense of purpose and connection.

“We hope the Service Week projects left students with a greater appreciation for the experiences and needs of others, a stronger sense of gratitude and the confidence that their actions matter,” parent Susan Frazier said. “Most importantly, we hope they recognized that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in their community.”
