Rye High School Students Showcase Innovation Through Coding Projects

Rye High School students recently demonstrated their creativity and problem-solving skills through a hands-on authentic coding project in MaryAnn Goldstein’s AP Computer Science Principles course.

As part of the assignment, the sophomores, juniors and seniors designed Python programs that addressed real-world problems, displayed innovation and explored personal interests. The project went beyond learning programming syntax and emphasized critical thinking, collaboration and project management.

The students worked in teams as they moved through the full development process, from brainstorming ideas to building functional software solutions. Their efforts culminated in a showcase on March 27 where they presented their authentic projects to an audience of professionals from a variety of fields.

“Through this project, I hope the students learned how to turn a new idea into a real product by working closely as a team,” Goldstein said. “I hope they practiced the art of explaining complex concepts to anyone, regardless of their background, and understand how to connect their innovations to the people who need them.”
