Bronxville Middle School students recently worked together to spread joy to patients at White Plains Hospital through the “Creative heARTS” program. From handmade bookmarks to colorful bracelets, the students poured their creativity into each item they crafted.
The project ideas were developed by students in the Service Learning Club with support from their club advisers. The students created bookmarks, writing encouraging messages on the back, and finishing them with lamination and tassels. They also made flowers, bouquets and animals out of pipe cleaners to brighten patient rooms. In addition, the students made braided rope and beaded bracelets, many featuring uplifting messages for the patients.
“This project was a wonderful manifestation of The Bronxville Promise in action,” teacher Connor Mitchell said.
Twelve members of the Service Learning Club also took on leadership roles during the initiative. Two student leaders were assigned to each of the six participating classrooms, where they guided their peers through the craft-making activities.
