Students from Rye Middle School, Midland, Osborn and Milton Schools welcomed inspirational speaker Tom Varano, founder of Emotion Into Art for dynamic and memorable presentations. Blending storytelling and speed painting, Varano delivered an engaging message about leadership, self-awareness, goal setting and the importance of kindness.
In just minutes, he brought iconic figures to life on a 4-by 5-foot canvas, painting to powerful music that captivated the students and left them moved and inspired. During his high-energy visits, Varano shared personal stories and powerful life lessons that resonated deeply with his audience.
“The program is designed to inspire and motivate, especially in schools, by sharing messages about resilience, confidence, kindness and pursuing one’s passions,” Rye Middle School Principal Nick Clair said.
Varano encouraged the students to be upstanders – those who stand up for others – and emphasized that even one voice or one person can make a difference in the world when guided by passion and determination. He acknowledged that finding one’s path isn’t always easy and often takes time.
“The important thing is to always look to do the right thing, and when you find your passion, go all in for it to be successful,” Clair said. “I hope the students continue to value education and others around them. I want them to think about how Tom urged them to be resilient and put their best effort into whatever they do in life. They can be whoever they dream of and it starts with their daily interactions with other people – being a kind and thoughtful person.”
Special thanks to the Rye Fund for Education for its generous support in providing this experience for the students. Varano’s visit was made possible through a grant from the organization.
