This Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, families are invited to spend the day at Muscoot Farm in Katonah, where two favorite annual traditions return for a lively spring celebration: the first Farmers Market of the season and the Sheep Shearing Festival. With activities for all interests – from food lovers to animal enthusiasts – it’s an ideal way to mark the occasion together.
The Sheep Shearing Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving visitors a chance to watch Muscoot’s sheep get their yearly trim in preparation for the warmer season. Guests can also enjoy spinning demonstrations, hands-on children’s activities like a wool-processing station, and an informative workshop at 2 p.m. All of the farm’s animals will be in their pastures and pens throughout the day.
Hayrides begin at 11 a.m. (weather permitting), with a special treat for moms, who ride free with the purchase of a child’s ticket. Tickets are $5 per person (cash, credit card or Venmo), and children ages 2 and under ride free. Visitors can also grab a bite at the concession stand, offering a variety of favorites including burgers, hot dogs, salads, ice cream and candy.
Muscoot’s popular Farmers Market also kicks off its season that day, operating from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Sunday through Nov. 15. Featuring more than 20 vendors each week, the market highlights fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted items and more, supporting local agriculture and small businesses while offering something for everyone.
Live music will round out the festivities at the Barnyard Beets stage, where Jack Grace brings his signature blend of humor and eclectic sounds, ranging from classic country and western to blues and southwestern-inspired tunes.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “There’s no better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than by enjoying everything Muscoot has to offer. Watching the sheep being shorn and browsing the farmers market make for a fun and memorable day for the whole family.”
Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation Kathy O’Connor said: “Muscoot is a wonderful destination year-round, but it really shines during special events like this. It’s the perfect place to celebrate Mother’s Day with a mix of farm experiences and local charm.”
The event is free and will be held rain or shine. Restrooms will be available on site.
