This year, the Westchester-Lower Hudson Valley Light The Night community is setting its most ambitious goal yet: raising $1.5 million to support Blood Cancer United and its work to fund lifesaving blood cancer research, provide critical patient support and advocate for families impacted by blood cancers.

Blood Cancer United Westchester-Fairfield Board of Trustees Vice Chair Michael Haberman said: “Light The Night is a powerful reminder that no one in the blood cancer community walks alone. Every lantern carried at Playland Park represents hope, resilience, and the shared commitment of our supporters to fund lifesaving research and provide critical support for patients and families. Together, we are bringing light to the darkness of cancer and creating a future with more birthdays, graduations, and cherished moments.”

The goal comes on the heels of a record-breaking 2025 event, when the Westchester-Fairfield Light The Night community raised $1,203,713 – the highest fundraising total in the event’s history.

2026 Light The Night Corporate Walk Chair Catherine Cioffi said: “Last year, this community proved what is possible when we come together for a cause that touches so many families. Raising more than $1.2 million was extraordinary, but we know there is more work to do. This year, we are setting a moonshot goal of $1.5 million, and I truly believe we can get there. Every team, every donor and every dollar moves us closer to better treatments, more support for patients and, ultimately, cures.”

Light The Night is known for its iconic illuminated lanterns, which represent the different ways participants are connected to the fight against blood cancer. Survivors carry white lanterns, supporters carry red lanterns and gold lanterns are carried in memory of loved ones lost to blood cancer.

Against the backdrop of Playland’s historic rides and Long Island Sound waterfront, thousands of participants will gather to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and demonstrate their support for everyone currently facing a blood cancer diagnosis.

Funds raised through Light The Night help Blood Cancer United advance research and provide education, resources and support to blood cancer patients and their families.

Individuals, families, companies and community organizations are encouraged to register now, form a team and begin fundraising ahead of the October 17 event.
